Predoctoral Researcher in Biosensors for Bioengineering
Join a research group to develop 3D skeletal muscle models and high-throughput drug screening for Myotonic Dystrophy type 2.
Best for:Best for biology or bioengineering graduates with a strong interest in tissue engineering, drug screening, and neuromuscular disease research.
Overview
The Biosensors for Bioengineering Group at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate. The successful applicant will focus on creating advanced human 3D skeletal muscle tissue models and implementing high-throughput drug screening platforms to study Myotonic Dystrophy type 2 (DM2). This position is part of the MY2DREAM project, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. The candidate will work in an interdisciplinary environment, contributing to preclinical validation of repurposed drug candidates. The role offers a four-year contract starting in early 2027.
What you'll do
- Generate and characterize engineered 3D skeletal muscle tissues using DM2 patient and healthy-donor myoblasts.
- Perform functional, structural, and molecular profiling of bioengineered muscle tissues.
- Implement and optimize high-throughput screening platforms using high-content confocal imaging.
- Conduct multiparametric analysis to screen drug repurposing libraries.
- Execute preclinical validation of prioritized drug candidates in 3D DM2 muscle models.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team and participate in institutional training and mentoring programs.
