An electrochemical flow microreactor for a greener synthesis of gold nanoparticles
Develop eco-friendly electrochemical microfluidic reactors for sustainable gold nanoparticle synthesis.
Best for:Best for chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering graduates with a strong interest in electrochemistry and microfluidics.
Overview
This PhD position at Université Grenoble Alpes, in collaboration with CEA, focuses on engineering a more sustainable and resource-efficient process for producing gold nanoparticles. Traditional synthesis methods often rely on harmful chemical reducing agents, prompting this project to integrate an electrochemical cell directly into a continuous-flow microreactor for in-situ reagent generation. The successful candidate will design, test, and optimize continuous-flow electrochemical cells while exploring biological capping agents to govern nanoparticle characteristics. The project offers a unique opportunity to combine electrochemistry, microfluidics, and materials science toward greener chemical manufacturing. Candidates are expected to conduct rigorous experimental investigations and carefully characterize the resulting nanomaterials.
