15 PhD Positions in Silicon Quantum Electrodynamics (MSCA Doctoral Network QUEST)
Join Europe’s leading quantum technology doctoral network to advance silicon-based nanoscale quantum research across 15 interdisciplinary PhD projects.
Best for:Best for master’s graduates in physics, materials science, or electrical engineering with a passion for quantum technologies and nanoscale research.
Overview
This MSCA Doctoral Network offers 15 PhD positions across Europe, focusing on silicon quantum electrodynamics at the nanoscale. Hosted by a consortium of top universities, research institutes, and companies, the QUEST network unites experts in semiconductor materials, nanofabrication, quantum photonics, and theoretical modeling. PhD candidates will contribute to cutting-edge projects—ranging from isotopic engineering of color centers in silicon to optomechanical systems and Casimir-Polder force measurements—while benefiting from cross-disciplinary collaboration and mobility across institutions. The programme provides full funding, including stipends and travel support, under the Horizon Europe framework. Ideal for master’s graduates with a strong background in physics, materials science, or engineering who seek to pioneer next-generation quantum technologies.
What you'll do
- Design and fabricate optical nanocavities with extreme light confinement for quantum applications.
- Develop and characterize quantum emitters (e.g., color centers in silicon) for scalable single-photon and spin-controlled systems.
- Conduct advanced experimental and theoretical research on quantum optomechanics, Casimir-Polder forces, and nanoscale interactions.
- Collaborate across European institutions to advance silicon-based quantum technologies.
- Publish findings in high-impact journals and present results at international conferences.
- Participate in interdisciplinary training programs, including mobility between partner institutions.
- Contribute to the development of next-generation quantum devices for applications in computing, sensing, and communication.
