PhD fellowship in Natural Language Processing
Explore how language models interpret culture and ambiguity using literary texts at the University of Copenhagen.
Best for:Best for NLP researchers with an interest in language model evaluation, culture, and interdisciplinary computational humanities.
Overview
The University of Copenhagen invites applications for a fully funded PhD fellowship focusing on Natural Language Processing and culturally grounded interpretation. The project, titled CuRe, investigates how language models reason about culture, ambiguity, and interpretation, employing literary texts as a rigorous testbed. The successful candidate will develop computational methods, construct evaluation resources, and collaborate closely with researchers in NLP and literary studies. The position also includes a planned research stay at McGill University.
What you'll do
- Construct datasets and benchmarks linking literary passages, historical context, and expert interpretations.
- Analyze language model performance regarding cultural knowledge, failure modes, and overconfidence in uncertain conclusions.
- Develop computational methods for grounding interpretations in textual evidence and representing uncertainty and ambiguity.
- Evaluate developed methods through automated experiments and user studies involving literary scholars and readers.
- Publish research findings in leading venues within natural language processing, artificial intelligence, and computational humanities.
