PhD Position in LINE-1 Retrotransposition and Host Factors
Explore aberrant LINE-1 retrotransposition mechanisms in neuronal cultures and mouse models with FWO funding.
Best for:Best for candidates with a strong background in molecular biology, genetics, or neuroscience, interested in genomic instability and translational research.
Overview
This PhD position at KU Leuven focuses on investigating aberrant LINE-1 retrotransposition, a key factor in genomic instability. The project will explore host factors and potential inhibitors using iPSC-derived neuronal cultures and mouse models. The successful candidate will contribute to understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying LINE-1 activity, with a strong emphasis on translational relevance. The position is funded by the FWO (Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek) and offers a competitive stipend for top-tier EU Master’s graduates.
What you'll do
- Investigate the mechanisms of aberrant LINE-1 retrotransposition in neuronal cells and mouse models.
- Identify and characterize host factors that regulate LINE-1 activity.
- Develop and apply molecular biology techniques to study epigenetic and transcriptional regulation of LINE-1 elements.
- Analyze data from iPSC-derived neuronal cultures and mouse models to elucidate functional implications.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to translate findings into potential therapeutic targets.
- Present research findings at national and international conferences.
- Publish results in high-impact scientific journals.
