Doctoral Researcher in Finite Element Technology for Smooth Problems
Join a 3-year PhD project at the University of Eastern Finland advancing finite element methods for computational engineering.
Best for:Best for master's graduates in computational physics, mathematics, or mechanical engineering with a strong background in numerical methods and Python programming.
Overview
The University of Eastern Finland invites applications for a 3-year Doctoral Researcher position at the Department of Technical Physics on the Kuopio Campus, starting 1 January 2027 or by agreement. The successful candidate will focus on the development, mathematical analysis, and numerical implementation of advanced finite element technologies for complex continuum and multiphysics problems. Jointly supervised by Assistant Professor Adam Sky and Dr. Michael Neunteufel from RICAM, the role combines methodological research with applications in computational engineering. Candidates are expected to conduct dissertation research, complete postgraduate studies, publish scientific findings, and engage in international academic exchange.
What you'll do
- Develop, mathematically analyze, and numerically implement advanced finite element methods for continuum and multiphysics problems.
- Conduct independent and collaborative research toward the completion of a doctoral dissertation and postgraduate studies.
- Prepare and publish scientific results in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
- Participate in scientific exchange, research visits, and collaboration with partner institutions such as RICAM.
- Perform limited teaching-related duties, including developing exercise materials and supervising exercise sessions.
