Research Fellow in Molecular Quantum Sensing
Develop next-generation quantum sensing for biomedical diagnostics using molecular nanocrystals and fluorescent nanodiamonds.
Best for:Best for postdoctoral researchers in chemistry, physics, or materials science with hands-on experience in nanoparticle synthesis, surface functionalization, and optical characterization.
Overview
This position at the London Centre for Nanotechnology (UCL) focuses on advancing quantum sensing techniques for biomedical applications. The successful candidate will work under Dr. Ben Miller to design, synthesize, and characterize molecular quantum materials in nanoparticle form, integrating them into diagnostic tests. The role involves interdisciplinary collaboration with chemists, physicists, and biomedical researchers, including Professor Vijay Chudasama’s group. The project aims to improve nanoparticle dispersibility, functionalization, and optical/spin properties for biological assays, with potential for intellectual property development. The position is funded by the UK Quantum Biomedical Sensing (Q-BIOMED) Research Hub and offers a fixed-term contract with possible extension.
What you'll do
- Develop and characterize molecular quantum materials in nanoparticle form for biomedical sensing applications.
- Design and synthesize nanoparticle coatings and functionalization methods for biological compatibility.
- Test nanoparticle behavior in biological environments, focusing on dispersibility, stability, and optical/spin properties.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate sensing materials into diagnostic tests and model assays.
- Lead research paper preparation and contribute to intellectual property development from the research.
- Propose and pursue innovative materials, chemistries, and biomedical applications based on experimental results.
