PhD Position in Atmospheric Ozone Dry Deposition Modeling
Develop improved ozone dry deposition parameterizations for air quality and climate models using field data and computational tools.
Best for:Best for candidates with a strong background in atmospheric sciences, environmental engineering, or related fields, combined with programming skills (Python, MATLAB, etc.) and a passion for interdisciplinary research.
Overview
This PhD position at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem focuses on advancing atmospheric science by improving ozone dry deposition parameterizations in air quality and climate models. The candidate will work within the Institute of Environmental Sciences (IES), leveraging field measurements, computational tools, and atmospheric models to address gaps in understanding how ozone interacts with vegetation. The project is funded by the Israel Science Foundation and offers a stipend of 72,000–84,000 NIS annually. The successful applicant will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, conduct data analysis, develop software, and contribute to both scientific literature and environmental policy.
What you'll do
- Conduct research to improve parameterizations of ozone dry deposition in air quality and climate models.
- Analyze comprehensive datasets of micrometeorological measurements, including eddy covariance data.
- Develop and apply custom software tools for data processing and model simulations.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary research team to integrate findings into broader environmental science frameworks.
- Perform field measurements and contribute to the development of computational tools for atmospheric modeling.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present results at scientific conferences.
