Overview

This doctoral position focuses on pioneering a novel label-free imaging technique called fluctuations imaging, moving beyond traditional average-value intensity readings in phase contrast microscopy. Based at a specialized laboratory within the Department of Technologies for Innovation, the successful candidate will work at the intersection of optics, biophysics, and biology. The research involves optimizing phase contrast microscopes, extracting fluctuation metrics from image sequences, and applying these techniques to study lymphocyte activation and pancreas-on-a-chip models. The candidate will collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to advance non-invasive cellular monitoring protocols.

What you'll do

  • Optimize a phase contrast microscope setup specifically for detecting optical fluctuations.
  • Develop and analyze image sequences to quantify active and passive transport phenomena.
  • Implement developed computational methods on various biological models including pancreas-on-a-chip devices.
  • Apply machine learning techniques to link quantified image fluctuations to specific biological processes such as lymphocyte activation.
  • Collaborate with biology and health researchers to validate non-invasive tracking protocols.
