PhD Position in Computational Methods for Digital Twins of Embryonic Development & Disease
Develop algorithmic infrastructure and simulation environments for digital twins of biological systems.
Best for:Best for candidates with a strong background in computational science, applied mathematics, or computer science and an interest in biological modeling.
Overview
The Computational Biology Group at ETH Zurich is seeking a PhD candidate to advance the development of digital twins for embryonic development and reproductive health. The role involves creating robust algorithmic infrastructure to handle nonlinear, high-dimensional models and complex simulations. You will work in an interdisciplinary team of modellers, experimentalists, and clinicians to improve parameter estimation, uncertainty quantification, and software scalability. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to open-source tools while applying advanced computational methods to real-world biomedical challenges.
What you'll do
- Develop and benchmark algorithms for parameter estimation and uncertainty quantification.
- Implement and optimize physics-informed neural networks and machine learning approaches for biological models.
- Maintain and extend the group's open-source simulation environment for performance and reproducibility.
- Collaborate with experimentalists and clinicians to apply computational methods to hormonal cycle and IVF treatment models.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at international conferences.
- Contribute to the group's teaching activities and open-source software development.
