Research Associate in EPR and Magnetism of Molecular Spin Qubits
Investigate transition metal molecular spin qubits using advanced pulse EPR spectroscopy and magnetometry.
Best for:Best for experimental physicists or chemists with a strong background in EPR spectroscopy and paramagnetic metal complexes.
Overview
The University of Manchester is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Department of Chemistry for a 2.5-year fixed-term project. Funded by a UKRI grant and led by Dr Floriana Tuna, the role focuses on characterising the electronic structure and coherence properties of d-block metal complexes using pulse electron paramagnetic resonance and SQUID magnetometry. The successful candidate will work within a collaborative UK-US research partnership involving the University of Rhode Island and Brown University. Key responsibilities include conducting advanced spectroscopic measurements, preparing publications, and mentoring junior research group members. Candidates should possess or be close to completing a PhD in chemistry, physics, or a closely related discipline.
What you'll do
- Characterise the electronic structure and coherence properties of d-block metal complexes using pulse EPR and magnetometry.
- Handle and measure highly air-sensitive samples utilising glove boxes and specialised d/f block chemistry techniques.
- Manage and supervise junior researchers, including PhD and undergraduate students working on spectroscopy and magnetism projects.
- Coordinate closely with partner institutions such as the University of Rhode Island on chemical syntheses and collaborative project milestones.
- Organize group meetings and prepare research findings for publication in high-impact scientific journals.
- Present research outcomes at national and international scientific conferences.
Requirements
Degree required: PhD in chemistry, physics, or a closely related field
