Fully Funded PhD Positions in Neuroscience, Cardiovascular Research, and Brain Tumour Biology
Three fully funded PhD opportunities at the University of Dundee exploring neuroprotection, redox biology, and brain tumour modelling.
Best for:Best for biomedical researchers with expertise in neuroscience, cardiovascular biology, or cancer research, seeking fully funded PhD opportunities in translational and interdisciplinary biomedical science.
Overview
The University of Dundee offers three distinct fully funded PhD positions focused on cutting-edge biomedical research. The first project investigates the neuroprotective effects of adiponectin in Alzheimer’s disease, aiming to understand how this hormone influences brain cell communication and tau protein accumulation. The second explores redox control of RNA splicing in cardiovascular disease, leveraging advanced in vivo models and human stem cell-derived cardiovascular cells to uncover mechanisms of gene regulation in hypertension and vascular dysfunction. The third project focuses on developing a vascularised brain tumour model using organ-on-a-chip technology to improve drug screening and personalised medicine for gliomas. Each position is designed for motivated candidates with a strong background in biomedical sciences or related fields.
What you'll do
- Conduct experimental research using cellular and animal models to investigate the neuroprotective effects of adiponectin in Alzheimer’s disease.
- Develop and validate a vascularised brain tumour model using organ-on-a-chip technology to study tumour-vascular interactions.
- Investigate how redox-dependent signalling influences gene expression and cellular function in cardiovascular disease using advanced in vivo and in vitro models.
- Perform genome-wide transcriptomic analysis to identify key pathways involved in redox signalling and disease mechanisms.
- Characterise tumour-vascular interactions and evaluate clinically relevant therapies for BBB-penetrant drugs.
- Publish research findings in high-impact scientific journals and present results at national and international conferences.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including clinicians, biologists, and engineers to advance translational research.
