Master of Engineering in Smart Energy Systems
Interdisciplinary master’s programme blending energy systems, AI, IoT, and digital optimisation for sustainable energy solutions.
Best for:Best for engineers and scientists with a technical background in electrical, mechanical, or computer science seeking to specialise in AI-driven energy systems and sustainable infrastructure.
Overview
The Master of Engineering in Smart Energy Systems at Ansbach University of Applied Sciences prepares graduates to design and optimise interconnected energy networks using advanced digital technologies. Focusing on renewable energy integration, AI-driven decision-making, and IoT-enabled systems, the programme combines technical expertise in energy production/consumption with computational and entrepreneurial skills. Students engage in hands-on projects, from simulating decentralised energy systems to developing AI applications for grid management, culminating in a thesis often co-developed with industry partners. The curriculum emphasises interdisciplinary collaboration and international perspectives, with optional German language courses and startup incubation opportunities. Graduates are equipped for careers in energy suppliers, automotive/building technology sectors, or entrepreneurial ventures in sustainable energy innovation.
What you'll do
- Develop and simulate decentralised energy systems using advanced computational tools and AI-driven algorithms.
- Design and implement IoT-enabled systems for monitoring and optimising energy production/consumption in real-time.
- Apply digital technologies (e.g., LabVIEW, AI) to solve complex energy system challenges, including grid integration and energy storage.
- Conduct hands-on research projects, often in collaboration with industry partners, to address real-world energy challenges.
- Develop entrepreneurial skills and business models for sustainable energy solutions, including potential startup incubation.
- Write a master’s thesis on a selected topic, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical applications in energy systems.
- Engage in interdisciplinary teamwork to explore topics like virtual power plants, blockchain applications, and energy sector coupling.
- Participate in elective modules such as drone technology, energy entrepreneurship, and optimisation research.
