Digital Data Storage in DNA
Develop and experimentally validate biotechnological methods for long-term DNA-based digital data storage.
Best for:Best for master's graduates in bioinformatics, computer science, or biotechnology with a strong interest in molecular computing and experimental research.
Overview
This doctoral position focuses on the biotechnological aspects of molecular data storage, specifically addressing the synthesis, preservation, retrieval, and sequencing stages of DNA-based archiving. Hosted within the GenScale team at IRISA in Rennes, France, the PhD candidate will collaborate closely with international partners including LIMMS in Tokyo as part of the national MoleculArXiv exploratory program. The successful applicant will perform experimental research to overcome current technological bottlenecks in large-scale DNA data storage. The role expects active experimental work, method development, and participation in collaborative research across multiple partner laboratories.
What you'll do
- Develop and experimentally validate methods for DNA-based digital data storage covering synthesis, conservation, retrieval, and sequencing stages
- Collaborate with partner teams including CompACT, CYBERHEALTH, and LIMMS on multi-disciplinary technological bricks
- Contribute to the scientific objectives of the national exploratory program MoleculArXiv
- Analyze biological and sequencing data to optimize encoding and decoding pipelines
- Prepare research findings for publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentation at international conferences
