PhD Position: Regulatory T Cell Fitness and Inflammation
Investigate how IL-6 signaling shapes regulatory T cell fitness and function during tissue inflammation.
Best for:Best for ambitious life sciences graduates with a strong background in immunology and a desire to pursue cutting-edge molecular research.
Overview
The International PhD Programme (IPP) Mainz, hosted at the Institute of Molecular Biology, invites applications for a fully funded doctoral position in the research group of Ilgiz Mufazalov in collaboration with Ari Waisman. The project explores how interleukin-6 signaling regulates the survival, stability, and suppressive functions of Foxp3+ regulatory T cells in inflammatory environments. The successful candidate will employ advanced mouse models, multicolor flow cytometry, and sequencing techniques to uncover key cellular and molecular mechanisms of immune tolerance. This position offers a vibrant, international research environment with comprehensive advanced training and access to state-of-the-art core facilities.
What you'll do
- Conduct experimental research using mouse models of cytokine overproduction and deficiency
- Perform multicolor flow cytometry and cell sorting analyses
- Execute regulatory T cell transfer experiments to investigate survival and suppressive functions
- Apply sequencing approaches to study transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members and participate in institute scientific meetings
