Research Fellow in Data-Parallel Proof Checking for Monoidal Theories
Join UCL to develop cutting-edge proof-checking and reinforcement learning theorem-proving systems for Safeguarded AI.
Best for:Best for researchers with a PhD in Computer Science or Mathematics, strong expertise in category theory, and proficiency in developing research-grade verification software.
Overview
UCL's Department of Computer Science is seeking a Research Fellow to work within the Programming Principles, Logic and Verification (PPLV) research group. This position supports the ARIA Safeguarded AI programme project titled “Data-Parallel Proof Checking for Monoidal Theories,” led by Professor Fabio Zanasi. The successful candidate will enhance the Metacat proof-checking core, create a reinforcement-learning theorem-proving prototype, and advance research on monoidal theories and diagrammatic proof systems. The role involves contributing both software outputs and theoretical foundations to the broader Safeguarded AI platform.
What you'll do
- Strengthen and maintain the core architecture of the Metacat proof-checking software.
- Design and develop a reinforcement-learning-based theorem-proving prototype.
- Conduct theoretical research on monoidal theories and diagrammatic proof systems.
- Contribute high-quality software and theoretical outputs to the ARIA Safeguarded AI platform.
- Present research findings at international scientific venues and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
Requirements
Degree required: PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a closely related field (or close to completion)
Language: English; strong professional proficiency
Instruction: English
Publications: Track record of scientific publication and presentation at international venues is desirable
- Research expertise in category theory, monoidal categories, and string diagrams
- Strong software development skills suitable for building research-grade proof-checking or verification software
