PhD Position in Mixed Neuropathologies of Alzheimer’s Disease
Explore the biological mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease with mixed neuropathologies using human brain tissue and advanced molecular models.
Best for:Best for neuroscientists or biomedical researchers with a master’s degree in neuroscience, biology, or related fields, passionate about neurodegenerative diseases and wet-lab techniques.
Overview
This PhD position at Amsterdam UMC focuses on uncovering the mechanisms behind mixed neuropathologies in Alzheimer’s disease (AD), where AD patients often exhibit additional protein aggregations linked to Parkinson’s and ALS. The project integrates human autopsy brain tissue, transcriptomics, and induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) models to study disease progression. Over four years, the successful candidate will collaborate with molecular neuroscientists, neuropathologists, and bioinformaticians to identify therapeutic targets and advance translational research. The work bridges basic neuroscience and clinical relevance, aiming to improve understanding and treatment of neurodegenerative disorders.
What you'll do
- Perform cutting-edge transcriptomic analyses to study gene expression patterns in Alzheimer’s disease brain tissue.
- Develop and utilize iPSC-based neural cultures to model mixed neuropathologies and test disease mechanisms.
- Analyze human autopsy brain tissue from Alzheimer’s patients to strengthen translational research impact.
- Identify biological mechanisms underlying mixed neuropathologies and propose potential therapeutic interventions.
- Collaborate with molecular neuroscientists, neuropathologists, and bioinformaticians to integrate findings.
- Present research findings at conferences and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
