Doctoral Candidate in Aerogels and Complex Food Media
Investigate food-grade aerogel interactions with complex food media using experimental and multiscale modeling approaches.
Best for:Best for master's graduates in chemical engineering or related fields with a strong background in materials characterization and food science.
Overview
The Institute of Thermal Separation Processes at Hamburg University of Technology invites applications for a doctoral candidate position within the Horizon Europe MSCA network FAroGels. The researcher will study how food-grade aerogels interact with complex matrices such as syrups, oils, emulsions, and sauces to determine their performance in stabilization and controlled release. The project combines advanced experimental characterization techniques, including rheology, spectroscopy, and imaging, with multiscale modeling approaches. The successful candidate will also participate in network-wide training activities and undertake planned secondments at academic and industrial partner organizations.
What you'll do
- Conduct research on the development, characterization, and validation of bio-based and biodegradable aerogels for sustainable food systems
- Plan, execute, document, and analyze experimental work using laboratory, analytical, and processing methods
- Participate actively in FAroGels network meetings, workshops, training schools, and transferable-skills seminars
- Undertake planned secondments at FAroGels partner organizations as specified for the project
- Collaborate closely with academic and non-academic partners across the international research network
