Doctoral Researcher in Adaptive Grid-Interactive Edge Datacenter Fleets
Join an EU-funded Marie Skłodowska-Curie network to develop end-to-end energy and carbon-aware models for distributed AI services.
Best for:Best for graduate engineers with strong AI, machine learning, and programming skills interested in energy-efficient computing and telecom networks.
Overview
Aalto University is recruiting a doctoral researcher for a three-year fixed-term position within the AEGIS European research and training network, funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions. The successful candidate will focus on end-to-end energy modeling for distributed AI services, developing compositional analytical models and low-latency query APIs to measure the real energy cost of workloads across radio, transport, and datacenter infrastructure. Responsibilities include validating models on testbeds, building query interfaces, and completing a doctoral dissertation at Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering. The project involves research secondments with industry and academic partners, including Ericsson and TU Wien.
What you'll do
- Develop compositional energy models spanning disaggregated radio access network components, transport networks, and datacenter hardware.
- Build a low-latency query API that computes and returns the end-to-end energy cost of AI services.
- Validate energy models against real-world infrastructure testbeds achieving less than 10 percent prediction error.
- Participate in research secondments with partner organizations including Ericsson in Finland and TU Wien in Austria.
- Complete coursework and author a doctoral dissertation for defense at Aalto University.
