Doctoral Student in Applied Cryptography and Privacy Engineering
Join Lund University’s Secure and Networked Systems Division to research privacy-preserving communication and computation outsourcing.
Best for:Best for candidates with a strong background in electrical engineering, computer science, or cryptology, seeking to specialize in privacy-preserving technologies and computation security.
Overview
This doctoral position at Lund University’s Department of Electrical and Information Technology focuses on applied cryptography and privacy. The Secure and Networked Systems Division, part of the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP), seeks a candidate to investigate privacy-preserving communication techniques (e.g., Tor, Nym) and computation outsourcing (e.g., Trusted Execution Environments, Fully Homomorphic Encryption). The role combines research, teaching (up to 20% of time), and collaboration within a dynamic interdisciplinary environment. Applicants will develop expertise in designing, analyzing, and implementing privacy-preserving systems while studying attacks and countermeasures. The position is fully funded and includes training in scientific methodology, leadership, and research ethics.
What you'll do
- Conduct independent research in applied cryptography and privacy-preserving communication/computation, designing and implementing privacy-preserving systems.
- Analyze and study attacks on privacy-preserving protocols and develop countermeasures.
- Participate in research projects and contribute to academic publications in the field.
- Teach doctoral-level courses and engage in pedagogical development (up to 20% of working hours).
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary research networks and contribute to workshops/seminars.
- Develop leadership and research ethics skills through structured doctoral training programs.
