PhD Studentship: Investigating Pericytes in Exercise-Induced Pulmonary Hemorrhage (EIPH) in Racehorses
Explore novel therapeutic targets for equine pulmonary health through cutting-edge molecular and bioinformatic research.
Best for:Best for motivated candidates with a background in veterinary medicine, biology, or related disciplines, passionate about translational research and eager to develop expertise in molecular biology, bioinformatics, and advanced imaging techniques.
Overview
This PhD studentship at the University of Surrey focuses on uncovering the role of pericytes in exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhage (EIPH), a prevalent condition affecting racehorses. The project aims to bridge gaps in understanding microvascular dysfunction in EIPH, leveraging insights from human pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). The successful candidate will conduct interdisciplinary research combining molecular biology, transcriptomics, bioinformatics, advanced imaging, and 3D cell culture. The work is part of translational veterinary research, with potential to improve racehorse welfare and performance. The project is supervised by a team of experts in veterinary medicine and science, offering a collaborative and well-supported research environment.
What you'll do
