PhD Position in Nanophotonic Metasurfaces and Directional OLED Design
Develop next-generation nanophotonic metasurfaces and directional OLED prototypes through interdisciplinary research in photonics and materials science.
Best for:Best for physics graduates with a strong interest in photonics, nanotechnology, and interdisciplinary research, seeking hands-on experience in nanofabrication and optical characterization.
Overview
This PhD position at the Centre de recherche sur l’hétéroepitaxie et ses applications (CRHEA) in Valbonne, France, focuses on advancing nanophotonics by designing and fabricating metasurfaces for directional light emission. The project integrates computational modeling, nanofabrication, and optical characterization to optimize structures for high-directivity and structured light extraction. Collaborations with LPL (Villetaneuse) and MPQ (Paris) will enable the development of a prototype meta-OLED with directional emission. The ideal candidate will combine theoretical knowledge in photonics with hands-on experience in nanofabrication and optical measurement, though prior expertise is not mandatory. The position offers a multidisciplinary environment with access to simulation tools, cleanrooms, and optical characterization facilities.
What you'll do
- Conduct computational modeling of interactions between emitters and nanophotonic structures to optimize directivity and light extraction.
- Design and fabricate metasurfaces using micro- and nanofabrication techniques available at CRHEA.
- Perform spectral and angular-resolved optical measurements to characterize emission diagrams and evaluate control over light emission.
- Integrate organic molecules and develop a prototype directional meta-OLED with structured emission, in collaboration with LPL.
- Collaborate with researchers at MPQ (Paris) for advanced optical characterization and analysis.
- Present research findings at conferences and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
