Research Associate in Modelling Friedreich's Ataxia Using iPSC-derived Neurons
Investigate Friedreich's ataxia mechanisms and therapeutics using human iPSC-derived neuronal models at SITraN.
Best for:Best for postdoctoral researchers with expertise in human iPSCs, neuronal differentiation, and translational neuroscience.
Overview
The University of Sheffield invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position within the Division of Neuroscience at the School of Medicine and Population Health. Working at the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN), the successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team to study cellular mechanisms underlying Friedreich’s ataxia using human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) and neuronal models. The role involves designing and executing experimental studies, analyzing complex data, contributing to scientific publications, and supporting less experienced researchers. Applicants are expected to have a strong background in laboratory-based neuroscience or related biological sciences alongside expertise in advanced cellular techniques.
What you'll do
- Plan and execute experimental studies utilizing human iPSC-derived neuronal models
- Analyze, interpret, and document experimental data to support translational neuroscience objectives
- Contribute to the development, optimization, and troubleshooting of research methodologies
- Apply techniques including iPSC culture and differentiation, immunocytochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, patch-clamp electrophysiology, molecular biology, and RNA sequencing
- Contribute to the drafting of scientific manuscripts, presentations, and future research funding applications
- Provide practical guidance, training, and support to students and junior researchers within the laboratory
