Doctoral Position in Functional Oxide Thin Films
Join ETH Zurich as a doctoral researcher to investigate layered perovskite-based oxide thin films for advanced electronic and energy applications.
Best for:Best for master's graduates in physics, chemistry, or materials science with a strong interest in thin-film deposition and solid-state materials.
Overview
The Solid-State Materials Chemistry Group at ETH Zurich invites applications for a fully funded doctoral position focusing on functional oxide thin films. The successful candidate will work on synthesizing epitaxial heterostructures, characterizing their structural and physical properties, and exploring new metastable compositions using experimental and computational approaches. The project aims to develop novel materials for low-power electronics and energy storage. Candidates will collaborate within an international team and contribute to establishing a newly formed research laboratory.
What you'll do
- Grow epitaxial thin films and heterostructures using pulsed-laser deposition and magnetron sputtering.
- Perform structural and functional characterization utilizing X-ray diffraction, scanning-probe microscopy, and magnetometry.
- Fabricate thin-film devices in a cleanroom environment and conduct electrical and transport measurements.
- Apply first-principles calculations and machine-learning foundation models to identify promising metastable compositions.
- Disseminate research findings through conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
