PhD Position in Protein-Protein Interactions in Asymmetric Membranes
Explore membrane biophysics and protein engineering in a collaborative interdisciplinary research environment at the University of Graz.
Best for:Best for Master’s graduates in biophysics, chemistry, or bioengineering with expertise in single-molecule methods, programming (Python), and experimental membrane biophysics.
Overview
This PhD position at the University of Graz focuses on studying the self-association of de novo designed transmembrane peptide (TMP) sensors that report on lateral membrane stress profiles. The successful candidate will design a library of TMP stress sensors, develop single-molecule FRET assays, and engineer asymmetric lipid vesicles using advanced biophysical techniques like SAXS/SANS. The project bridges molecular biophysics, soft matter physics, and biomolecular engineering, with opportunities for collaboration in computational sciences. The position is part of the FWF-funded project ‘ASYMPPI’ and offers a collaborative research environment with state-of-the-art facilities in Graz, Austria.
What you'll do
