Master of Science in Applied Geosciences – Energy & Mineral Resources (EMR)
Hands-on MSc programme specialising in energy and mineral resource exploration, production, and sustainable subsurface management.
Best for:Best for geoscience graduates with a Bachelor’s degree in geology, mineralogy, or related fields, seeking hands-on training in energy and mineral resource management with international exposure.
Overview
The Master of Science in Applied Geosciences – Energy & Mineral Resources (EMR) at RWTH Aachen University offers a specialised four-semester programme focused on the exploration, production, and sustainable management of energy and mineral resources. Students gain practical experience in fields such as geothermal energy, mineral exploration, subsurface analysis, and geophysical monitoring. The programme is taught entirely in English and includes elective modules like geochemistry, seismology, and resource estimation. It is designed for graduates with a strong geoscientific background, providing both theoretical knowledge and real-world applications through partnerships with industry and international collaborations. The curriculum also encourages study abroad opportunities and integrated internships, ensuring a well-rounded education in applied geosciences.
What you'll do
- Develop a strong foundation in energy and mineral resource exploration through theoretical and practical coursework.
- Engage in hands-on training in geophysical imaging, subsurface analysis, and resource estimation techniques.
- Participate in elective modules covering advanced topics such as geothermal energy, geochemical applications, and mineral processing.
- Conduct fieldwork and laboratory experiments to apply geoscientific principles to real-world problems.
- Complete a Master’s thesis under academic supervision, focusing on a specific research topic within the EMR specialisation.
- Collaborate with international partners and industry professionals through study abroad programmes and integrated internships.
- Develop skills in sustainable resource management and environmental stewardship related to energy and mineral extraction.
