Fully Funded PhD Positions in Machine Learning & AI for Science
PhD research on cutting‑edge machine learning methods to model biological systems at a new AI‑native institute in Vienna.
Best for:Best for candidates with a strong ML background, especially in geometric deep learning, generative modeling, or graph neural networks, who want to apply AI to life‑science problems.
Overview
The AIthyra Institute in Vienna is offering four‑year fully funded PhD positions focused on developing foundational machine learning techniques for biological systems. Supervised by Michael Bronstein and an international team of leading AI researchers, PhD candidates will work on geometric deep learning, generative flow models, and large‑scale foundation models. The role combines high‑performance GPU computing with hands‑on wet‑lab experiments to validate model predictions. Successful applicants are expected to publish their work in top ML conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, or ICLR. The degree will be awarded jointly by TU Wien and the University of Vienna.
What you'll do
- Design and implement novel machine‑learning algorithms for modeling molecular and cellular data.
- Publish research results in top‑tier conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, or ICLR.
- Utilize a dedicated GPU cluster to train large‑scale models and foundation models.
- Collaborate with in‑house experimentalists to validate model predictions in a closed‑loop wet‑lab setup.
- Develop software pipelines that integrate AI models with high‑throughput experimental data.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary projects linking computational methods with life‑science research.
