Overview

The Master of Science in Biological Sciences at the University of Amsterdam offers a rigorous, interdisciplinary programme focused on understanding and preserving Earth’s biodiversity. Students engage in hands-on research across four specialised tracks—Ecology and Evolution, Freshwater & Marine Biology, Green Life Sciences, and Evolution of Behaviour and Mind—while contributing to global conservation efforts. The programme blends theoretical knowledge with practical fieldwork, preparing graduates for careers in academia, industry, or policy. Located at the intersection of the Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics (IBED) and the Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences (SILS), students collaborate with leading researchers to address pressing ecological and evolutionary challenges. Whether studying molecular genetics, ecosystem dynamics, or behavioural adaptations, this programme fosters a deep appreciation for sustainable biodiversity management.
