PhD Position in Numerical Photonics (MSCA SPARK Network)
Join an MSCA Doctoral Network to research perfect broadband temporal metamaterial absorbers using numerical modeling and machine learning.
Best for:Best for physics or engineering graduates with a strong background in optics, numerical simulation, and a keen interest in time-varying photonics.
Overview
The University of Namur invites applications for a 3-year Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) PhD position within the Physics Department and NISM institute. The successful candidate will focus on the theoretical design, numerical calculation, and experimental characterization of time-varying metamaterial absorbers for broadband absorption. This project involves collaborative secondments, including a 6-month research stay at Eindhoven University of Technology and a 3-month industry placement at JCMWave. The candidate is expected to conduct rigorous simulations, contribute to consortium objectives, and engage in active professional development.
What you'll do
- Perform theoretical modeling and numerical simulations of time-varying metamaterial structures.
- Apply machine-learning optimization techniques to achieve perfect broadband absorption.
- Participate in the experimental fabrication and characterization of photonic devices during international secondments.
- Collaborate closely with academic and industrial partners within the SPARK MSCA Doctoral Network.
- Contribute to project deliverables, research reports, and scientific publications in high-impact venues.
- Participate in network-wide training programs, workshops, and international scientific conferences.
