Doctoral Researcher in Backscatter-Assisted Wireless Positioning
Develop novel wireless positioning methods for challenging non-line-of-sight environments using backscatter communications.
Best for:Best for engineering graduates with a strong background in wireless communications, signal processing, and experimental prototyping.
Overview
Aalto University's School of Electrical Engineering invites applications for a fully funded doctoral researcher position within the Department of Information and Communications Engineering. Working under the supervision of Professor Riku Jäntti as part of the BANLOS project, the successful candidate will investigate backscatter-assisted wireless positioning in non-line-of-sight conditions. The role involves a combination of theoretical modelling, signal processing algorithms, software-defined radio prototyping, and experimental validation. The candidate is expected to pursue a doctoral degree, publish high-impact research, and contribute to the academic activities of the department.
What you'll do
- Develop signal models, algorithms, and performance analyses for backscatter-assisted non-line-of-sight positioning.
- Apply detection and estimation theory to questions of detectability, identifiability, positioning accuracy, and robustness.
- Design and implement software-defined radio prototypes and experimental measurement setups.
- Evaluate proposed methods through computer simulations, laboratory experiments, and measurement datasets.
- Publish research findings in high-quality international journals and conference proceedings.
- Complete required doctoral studies and develop independent research skills.
- Participate in teaching and departmental academic activities to a limited extent.
