PhD Position in Elastin-Based Cardiovascular Implants
Investigate the molecular design and calcification response of elastin-like recombinants for novel cardiovascular implants.
Best for:Best for master's graduates in biomedical engineering, materials science, or related fields with a strong interest in biomaterials and cardiovascular research.
Overview
RWTH Aachen University invites applications for a PhD position focusing on the calcification response of elastin-based cardiovascular implants within the Department of Biohybrid & Medical Textiles (BioTex). The successful candidate will investigate how molecular design and functionalisation of recombinant elastin-like proteins influence calcification susceptibility. Working at the intersection of biomaterials, tissue engineering, and cardiovascular research, the project provides access to advanced techniques in biomaterial characterisation and cell culture. Candidates will engage in interdisciplinary research, scientific collaboration, and international conference participation.
What you'll do
- Design and execute experiments investigating the calcification susceptibility of elastin-based biomaterials
- Characterise recombinant protein-based cardiovascular implants using advanced analytical methods
- Perform cell culture and biological compatibility assessments
- Conduct cardiovascular testing and imaging analyses on engineered implant prototypes
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members across engineering and medical sciences
- Prepare research findings for publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentation at international conferences
