PhD Position in Molecular Immunology on Myeloid Cell Activation
Investigate myeloid cell activation and exhaustion at single-cell resolution using multi-omic profiling and in silico modeling.
Best for:Best for life science graduates with a strong immunology background and experience in both wet and dry lab single-cell methodologies.
Overview
The International PhD Programme (IPP) Mainz, hosted at the Institute of Molecular Biology, is offering a fully funded doctoral position within the research group of Johannes Mayer. The selected candidate will examine myeloid cell aging, activation, and exhaustion states during systemic and local inflammation. The work combines single-cell multi-omic profiling, computational network modeling, and in vitro or in vivo validation approaches. Applicants are expected to possess a strong background in immunology and a willingness to work with experimental model systems.
What you'll do
- Perform single-cell and multi-omic profiling of myeloid cells and their bone marrow progenitors.
- Develop in silico models using trajectory inference and ligand-receptor network analysis to map cellular perturbation landscapes.
- Conduct in vitro activation experiments and CRISPR/Cas9 perturbation screens.
- Characterize in vivo inflammatory models spanning systemic and local inflammation, including tissue processing and analysis.
- Collaborate with international team members and contribute to interdisciplinary scientific discussions.
