PhD Student in Materials Chemistry (Ion-Conductive Polymers)
Fully funded PhD position at Stockholm University focusing on ion-conductive polymers for rechargeable aqueous zinc ion batteries.
Best for:Best for materials chemists and chemical engineers with a strong background in polymer chemistry and electrochemical energy storage.
Overview
Stockholm University invites applications for a fully funded PhD position in Materials Chemistry with a specialization in ion-conductive polymers for rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries. Working under the supervision of Prof. Jiayin Yuan and Prof. Aji Mathew, the successful candidate will develop multifunctional ion-conductive polymers to stabilize the anode/electrolyte interface and enhance long-term cycle life. The project involves designing sustainable biomass-derived polymer coatings, assembling and testing electrochemical cells, and collaborating with international consortium partners including theoretical modeling groups. The appointee is expected to undertake mandatory secondments as part of the wider research program.
What you'll do
- Develop multifunctional ion-conductive polymers derived from biomass to stabilize anode-electrolyte interfaces in aqueous zinc-ion batteries.
- Assemble and test symmetrical Zn||Zn cells and full cells to evaluate electrochemical performance and mechanical adaptability.
- Investigate interfacial phenomena and suppress undesirable side reactions to achieve long-term cycle life.
- Collaborate closely with project partners, particularly theory groups conducting molecular dynamics simulations and theoretical modeling.
- Complete three required secondments totaling nine months with international consortium partners.
