Funded PhD in Inorganic/Solid-State Chemistry in the Gabilondo Group
Join a new research group at University College Dublin to explore the synthesis and properties of metastable crystalline semiconductors.
Best for:Best for chemistry graduates with a strong background in solid-state, materials, or inorganic synthesis.
Overview
The Gabilondo group at University College Dublin is seeking a motivated PhD student to investigate the synthetic discovery of metastable, crystalline semiconductors. The research will focus on understanding formation pathways and characterizing the optical and electronic properties of these materials for applications in solar-driven photocatalysis and non-linear optics. This four-year studentship offers a comprehensive scholarship covering both tuition fees and a living stipend. The successful candidate will contribute to the group's foundational research while fulfilling undergraduate teaching requirements.
What you'll do
- Conduct synthetic discovery of metastable, crystalline semiconductors.
- Investigate material formation pathways using advanced characterization techniques.
- Analyze the optical and electronic properties of synthesized materials.
- Contribute to research targeting solar-driven photocatalysis and non-linear optics.
- Provide 144 hours of undergraduate laboratory and tutorial teaching per year.
- Maintain high standards of research integrity and documentation.
