PhD Research Fellow in Topological Data Analysis
Join a collaborative research project at the University of Bergen focusing on multiparameter persistence and medical image analysis.
Best for:Mathematicians with a strong foundation in algebraic topology and an interest in computational applications for medical data.
Overview
The Department of Mathematics at the University of Bergen is seeking a PhD Research Fellow to contribute to the Lie-Størmer Center's research on complex data analysis. The successful candidate will work within the 'Topology, Algebra, and Geometry for Complex Data Analysis' work package to develop mathematical and computational methods in Topological Data Analysis. The project emphasizes multiparameter persistence and its practical application to medical image analysis. The position is a fixed-term appointment for three years, with a potential fourth year involving career-promoting duties such as teaching. Applicants will join a vibrant research environment that bridges pure and computational mathematics.
What you'll do
- Conduct theoretical research on multiparameter persistence and its computational properties.
- Design and implement algorithms for medical image analysis using topological methods.
- Investigate stability and numerical summaries of persistence modules.
- Participate actively in the Lie-Størmer Center research environment and the Mathesis doctoral school.
- Collaborate with researchers across the Lie-Størmer Center network in Bergen and Tromsø.
- Complete an approved PhD educational programme within the three-year contract period.
