Master’s in Informatics: Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence
A research-focused master’s programme blending theoretical AI expertise with hands-on development of trustworthy, large-scale AI systems.
Best for:Best for students with a strong quantitative background seeking to specialise in AI development, ethics, or research while working with cutting-edge tools and high-performance computing.
Overview
This two-year (120 ECTS) master’s programme at the University of Oslo’s Department of Informatics offers specialised training in modern machine learning and AI. Students gain rigorous theoretical foundations in statistical learning, deep neural networks, and probabilistic modelling, alongside practical experience in deploying AI systems at scale. The curriculum emphasises responsible AI—addressing fairness, privacy, and transparency—while allowing specialisation in either language technology or ML theory. Research collaborations with industry and Norway’s national trustworthy AI centre (TRUST) provide real-world project opportunities, culminating in a thesis. Graduates are prepared for leadership roles in tech, government, or PhD studies.
What you'll do
