Marie Curie Research Assistant in Industrial High-Temperature Heat Pump Systems
Develop advanced modelling tools for industrial heat exchangers and turbo-compressors in a Marie Curie ITN PhD programme.
Best for:Best for mechanical engineering graduates with a master’s degree, strong computational modelling skills, and an interest in industrial decarbonisation and heat transfer systems.
Overview
This Marie Curie-funded PhD position at Brunel University London focuses on advancing industrial high-temperature heat pump technology. The successful candidate will work on designing and validating computational models for turbo-compressors and heat exchangers, incorporating modern manufacturing methods and corrosion-resistant coatings. The project is part of the HeatMinds ITN, which trains 15 PhD candidates across Europe to drive innovation in low-grade heat upgrade solutions for industrial decarbonisation. The role combines experimental testing with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and is based at the Uxbridge Campus in London. Applicants must demonstrate strong academic qualifications in mechanical engineering and an interest in interdisciplinary research.
What you'll do
- Develop generalised modelling tools for industrial high-temperature heat pump heat exchangers, incorporating modern manufacturing methods and multilayer coatings.
- Conduct computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to validate and refine models for turbo-compressors and gas flow paths.
- Design and execute experimental tests to validate theoretical models under corrosive and erosive conditions.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers within the HeatMinds ITN network to advance industrial decarbonisation technologies.
- Present research findings at conferences and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
- Contribute to the development of innovative solutions for upgrading low-grade heat in industrial processes.
