PhD Fellowship in Spatial Genome Organization and Gene Regulation
Explore the impact of lamin mutations on spatial genome organization in lipodystrophy using cutting-edge genomics and computational biology.
Best for:Best for candidates with a strong background in chromatin/genome biology, computational skills in Python/R, and experience in bioinformatics or 3D chromatin conformation capture methods.
Overview
This PhD fellowship at the University of Oslo focuses on investigating how mutations in nuclear lamins affect spatial genome organization in lipodystrophy patient-derived cells. The project combines wet-lab 3D genomics experiments with advanced computational analyses, including RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, and protein interactome data. The successful candidate will work within an interdisciplinary team at the Division of Biochemistry, Department of Molecular Medicine, under the supervision of Dr. Julia Madsen-Østerbye and Prof. Philippe Collas. The position includes a research stay at the Danish Cancer Institute in Copenhagen and participation in the Medical Faculty’s PhD program, with a three-year contract.
What you'll do
- Conduct wet-lab genomics experiments to study spatial genome organization in lipodystrophy patient-derived cells.
- Perform advanced computational analyses of genomic datasets (RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, protein interactome).
- Maintain an accurate electronic laboratory journal to document experimental progress and findings.
- Present research findings at group meetings, seminars, and international conferences.
- Collaborate on manuscript preparation and contribute to peer-reviewed publications.
- Complete required doctoral coursework within the Medical Faculty’s PhD program.
- Write, submit, and defend a PhD thesis within the three-year contract period.
Requirements
Degree required: Master’s degree in chromatin/genome biology or a related field, with a minimum grade equivalent to B on the ECTS scale. The Master’s thesis must include at least 30 ECTS credits.
