PhD Position: Condensates in Transcription Regulation
Investigate the role of transcription condensates in priming chromatin for transcription initiation at the Institute of Molecular Biology in Mainz.
Best for:Best for ambitious life sciences graduates with a Master's degree and a strong interest in molecular biology, gene regulation, and advanced microscopy.
Overview
The International PhD Programme (IPP) Mainz invites applications for a fully funded doctoral position within the research group of Sandra Schick at the Institute of Molecular Biology. The selected candidate will examine the initial steps of transcription regulation, focusing on how transcription condensates form, interact, and functionally specialize for distinct transcriptional stages. The project combines advanced microscopy, CRISPR technologies, genomics, and proteomics to dissect the contributions of individual factors in chromatin priming. The successful applicant will work in a vibrant international environment and collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams.
What you'll do
- Design and execute experimental studies investigating the role of transcription condensates in priming chromatin for transcription initiation.
- Apply diverse microscopy approaches ranging from live-cell confocal to super-resolution microscopy using established reporter lines.
- Utilize CRISPR technologies, genomics, and proteomics methods to dissect the function of individual regulatory factors and co-activators.
- Analyze and integrate cellular approaches with in vitro experiments and mathematical modeling in collaboration with partner research groups.
- Participate in advanced training programmes, scientific workshops, and professional skill development courses.
- Present research findings at internal meetings and international scientific conferences.
