PhD Position in Bioorthogonal & Supramolecular Chemistry
Explore mechanical bonds and rotaxanes to control bioorthogonal reactions in cellular environments.
Best for:Best for chemistry graduates with a strong organic synthesis background interested in supramolecular chemistry and chemical biology.
Overview
The Instituto de Productos Naturales y Agrobiología offers a fully funded 48-month doctoral position within the Molecular Sciences department. The researcher will investigate the control of bioorthogonal reactions through mechanical bonds using rotaxanes and interlocked molecular architectures. Key activities include chemical synthesis, structural characterization, kinetic evaluation, and cellular testing for targeted drug release or sensing applications. The successful candidate is expected to conduct rigorous laboratory research, synthesize complex molecular systems, and advance supramolecular chemistry methodologies.
What you'll do
- Synthesize interlocked molecules, rotaxanes, and their non-interlocked analogues
- Characterize newly synthesized chemical compounds using standard analytical techniques
- Test and evaluate the reaction kinetics of designed bioorthogonal systems
- Analyze the structural influence of macrocycles surrounding molecular axles
- Evaluate responsive rotaxanes in cellular environments for controlled drug release and sensing
