Research Associate in Proteomics
Join a multidisciplinary team to explore the 'dark proteome' in facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) with advanced proteomic and transcriptomic techniques.
Best for:Best for postdoctoral researchers with hands-on experience in proteomics, molecular biology, or biochemistry, seeking to lead technical workflows while contributing to high-impact translational research.
Overview
This postdoctoral position at Newcastle University’s John Walton Muscular Dystrophy Research Centre offers a unique opportunity to advance proteomics research in neuromuscular diseases. The role focuses on characterising the 'dark proteome' in facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD), leveraging patient-derived skeletal muscle samples and cutting-edge workflows. The successful candidate will optimise sample preparation, analyse proteomic and transcriptomic data, and collaborate with international partners at Human Technopole (Milan) and University of Colorado Anschutz (USA). The position combines technical leadership in proteomics with broader contributions to translational research, aiming to uncover novel disease mechanisms and biomarkers for therapeutic development.
What you'll do
- Develop and optimise proteomic and transcriptomic workflows for processing skeletal muscle samples, including preparation and analysis of patient-derived biopsies.
- Lead the implementation of robust sample preparation techniques for challenging tissue types, ensuring high-quality proteomic datasets.
- Contribute to downstream data interpretation within a proteogenomic framework, integrating proteomic and transcriptomic data with clinical datasets.
- Support and collaborate on related proteomics and omics studies within the research centre, fostering interdisciplinary research.
- Work closely with international partners at Human Technopole (Milan) and University of Colorado Anschutz (USA) to advance collaborative research goals.
- Identify novel disease mechanisms and candidate biomarkers in FSHD, informing potential therapeutic strategies.
