Overview

The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) invites applications for a PhD position within its Quantum Materials Group, led by Dr. Florian Kaiser. The project focuses on optical interference between colour centres, specifically Hong-Ou-Mandel interference, using quantum photonic silicon carbide chips and fibre-coupled waveguides. The successful candidate will set up an optical cryostat platform, develop pulsed excitation schemes, and conduct photon characterization and interference experiments. Enrolment will be at the University of Luxembourg, and the research will be carried out in Belval, Luxembourg.

What you'll do

  • Set up and configure a new optical cryostat platform integrating standard confocal microscopy and interferometry.
  • Characterize photon quality based on various experimental parameters including spectral, temporal, and polarization filtering.
  • Determine optimal pulsed excitation schemes for quantum colour centres.
  • Implement initial two-photon interference experiments outside of the cryostat.
  • Demonstrate fully on-chip quantum interference experiments inside the optical cryostat.
  • Coordinate research activities and communicate findings with the supervisor and external collaborators.
